Tomato sauce - it tasted delicious, and made me more comfortable with using the hob. I didn’t blend it, therefore it was chunky, As that’s what my family likes! I learnt to use the hob more confidently and to finely chop or dice an onion. Week 3
I made Jewish Challah Bread which is sweet bread, and it tastes delicious!! I plaited it with six strands.
This vegetable soup contains Carrot, Onion, Potato and Pearl Barley with Beef stock. It was really fun to make and I thought it tested my cooking skills well!
I made a Choritzo and Mushroom risotto! I used beef stock and red onion and mozzarella. It was really fun to make and tasted delicious!! It helped my with my hob skills too, and not to be scared of steam or sizzling!
I made scones! I added cherries to the batch as well. It was really fun to make and tastes delicious ! They smelt REALLY nice as well! I really enjoyed the sneaky bites I had as well.
Today we made Pasta and Cheese Sauce! This week I really enjoyed making the pasta and sauce. I didn’t add in anything extra but my mozzarella cheese was extremely stringy so pulled everything together very quickly! For me it had the right amount of cheese in and I really enjoyed every aspect of this weeks food lesson!
Today I made Strawberry Muffins! They were quick and easy to make, and they tasted delicious, the kind of thing I would make to bring to a picnic! I liked making these muffins today!
Today I made Bread Rolls! They were quite tedious, but that made it really exciting and I found it really cool to see each stage of rising and cooking. The ingredients are flour, butter, sugar, salt and yeast. I learnt good techniques of kneading as well. It was fun learning what shapes make good bread rolls! Also, thank you Miss Harvey for a great year 7 food lesson, I have enjoyed everything I have made!! PS: the kitchen smelled of brownies before hand...yumand fresh bread afterwards...yum!!

Fantastic Jemima! Why did you choose to make a Challah?

I chose this because I made it at primary school, and I wanted to bake something different from the usual cakes.

Lovely soup, I like the addition of the pearl barley, good idea. How did you know when the soup was fully cooked? Miss Harvey

I knew it was ready when the potatoes and carrots squashed against the sides of the pan.

I like the combination of flavours that you use Jemima - really unique.
Why does the risotto go 'creamy'?
Miss Harvey

The Arborio rice releases starch which pulls everything together and therefore becomes creamy.

I like your use of mozzarella cheese in the sauce - unique!
Can you describe why the sauce thickened?

When the starch in the flour was released, it pulled everything together!

Thanks Jemima, I am so glad you have enjoyed your lessons this year. Let's keep that going in Year 8!
Why did we place a plastic bag or cling film over the bread in the lesson?
Miss Harvey
